Substation Engineer Intern

Part Time and Full Time

Roanoke, VA / Charlotte, NC

DiGioia Gray is seeking a Substation Engineer Intern in our Roanoke, VA and Charlotte, NC offices. This intern will be involved with the protection and control engineering and/or detailed physical design for high voltage substation projects up to 500kV.

Duties

With supervisor’s guidance, prepare preliminary engineering design/layouts and technical drawings incorporating dimensions, quantities, and wording

Collect pertinent engineering data through research and/or investigation for a specific request.

Interpret applicable data and pertinent design criteria.

Assist in developing basic station equipment arrangements (station layouts) and single line diagram drawings.

Assist in performing grounding studies, AC load studies, DC battery and charger sizing calculations, shielding studies, lighting studies, bus ampacity calculations, voltage drop calculations.

Assist in determining specifications and assembling major equipment bill of materials.

Assist higher level engineers as needed to complete more advanced studies and calculations.

Assist in final presentation of analytical and design results in reports, graphics, and supplemental data.

Communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to others.

Maintain accurate records in a timely manner and under project specific requirements.

Education

Required: In the process of earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on power systems from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred: In the process of earning a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on power systems from an ABET accredited program.
