Peer Reviews and Training
Sometimes a client lacks the time or depth of experience to properly review consultants’ designs. In these instances, our clients are compelled to obtain a third party, independent assessment or peer review. Typical issues are adherence to codes and regulations, complete calculations consistent with current practice, construction materials, means and methods of construction, and reasonable cost estimates.
DiGioia Gray’s peer review teams consist of staff members with extensive value-added experience, proficient in the applicable software, aware of the “state-of-practice”, and who can assess issues in a timely manner. Our years of experience allow our teams to review designs, calculations, drawings and specifications quickly and efficiently to identify missing information, errors and constructability issues.
DiGioia Gray’s vision is to improve health, safety, and welfare through engineering practices. One way we actively undertake this mission is through education. Several of our engineering staff members serve as adjunct professors at Carnegie Mellon University. Others have had long careers with utilities and have taught courses in transmission line design and maintenance. Overall, our staff has the desire, knowledge and skills to provide training to our staff, our client’s staff, and other members of our profession, including our competition.
DiGioia Gray has teamed with the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Department of Engineering Professional Development and regularly conducts classes in foundation design, drilled shaft design (using FAD Tools software), and reliability-based design methods.
DiGioia Gray has also collaborated with Penn State University to provide transmission line siting and transmission line design training for PSU’s Advanced School of Power Engineering.
In addition, we have been retained to provide in-depth, specialized training that focuses on the needs of individual clients. Such training has been provided through various means, including:
- Design guides and manuals for in-house utility engineers
- Preparation and review of utility specifications
- Specialized training seminars
DiGioia Gray has also developed a course in transmission line design, siting, maintenance and inspection that we are able to offer to our own staff and to the clients that we serve.
